During his youth in southern Germany and his time studying and enjoying some «wild» clubbing in what was then a particularly exciting West Berlin, Bernd turned travel into his hobby, alongside his musical passion for disco, funk, and new wave, and later into his profession: first at TUI and then at airtours, where he was fortunate enough to get to know Europe’s best and most famous hotels as a product manager.

Until he discovered his new passion for salsa and merengue while traveling to the Caribbean. He was particularly captivated by Havana, with its unique blend of 1950s nostalgia, colonial flair, revolutionary history, cabarets, tobacco, and rum, as well as its vibrant art and music scene. He wanted to spend a few years here. But things turned out differently.

Now he’s almost 25 years behind him, first for 12 years as managing director of a Swiss incoming agency and, since 2013, as the owner of SENSES of CUBA.

In his free time, he remains loyal to the local music scene, supporting bands and talented artists, and even once landing a national No. 1 hit. Even today, he plays alongside young DJs – in true style for his age, of course – with vinyl…
